LG VX9100 (Keybo) Ringtone Tutorial
Hey, So my name is Makaveli Adam. This is my tutorial on how to access your system files/folders on your LG VX9100 (Keybo) CDMA Phone. This tutorial is for adding your own personal downloaded/created ringtones to your phone so you do not have to pay for them. Just follow these steps, look at the pictures and you will NOT have any problems. If you do than you can feel free to add me to MSN messenger, and I'll be more than happy to assist you. This is pretty straight forward.

I'd also like to state, I have successfully done this on other LG Model phones. Nothing on the Bell Mobility network... YET! Still trying to figure something out for that.

*NOTE* Makaveli Adam is not responsible for any harm that may be done to your cellular device. If directions are followed properly than everything WILL be fine.

*NOTE 2* For those trying to do this without using a Micro USB cable. Go buy one! You cannot do this with an SD Card. I was successful doing it via Bluetooth a couple times but it took some time to get it to work.

STEP: 1 -     Getting the required applications

Ok, so here are a list of applications that you will need to download (Download links provided).

INSTALL ONCE DOWNLOADED!

LG VX9100 (Keybo) Drivers - These will give both the modem and serial port drivers that you will be required to use. Download and install these.

Bitpim V1.0.6 Official - This will be the program we will be using to access the system files/folders and to place the ringtones into the proper location. *Note* Higher versions MAY work, but like I said, this is what I use and is HARMLESS!

XP Users >>
Drivers For Xp
Download for Bitpim V1.0.6
STEP: 2 - Connect the supplied USB Data cable to your computer and phone.

*NOTE* If you have a microSD memory card inserted in your phone than it will prompt you asking if you wish to connect. SELECT NO!
STEP: 3 - Open Bitpim. Once in Bitpim we are going to show the filesystem tab. To do so click the "View" dropdown menu up top and select "View Filesystem". You will then notice that the filesystem tab is now shown in the "Left Column".
Step: 4 - In this step I'm going to teach you how to "Detect" your phone without actually selecting "Detect Phone"

First click the "Edit" drop-down menu and select "Settings". A Box will appear called "BitPim Settings"
Next, we are going into the "Phone Wizard" to find your phone.   To do so click the phone wizard button inside the "BitPim Settings" Window. A new window will appear called "Phone Setting Wizard"
In the "Phone Setting Wizard" you are asked to choose your phone model. Do not worry about the carriers or makes of the phone, just the models. Scroll through and find the "LG-VX9100 (env 2)".

*NOTE*   You will notice that after selecting the model the carriers and make have automatically been selected. This is alright, just leave them be.
Click "Next >" and a new window will appear called "Communications Port Settings"
STEP: 5 - Next we have to choose the APPROPRIATE port to do this "Hack". To do so, you will see 4 ports listed on the left hand side. Auto, COM #, COM #, COM # (# = A number, just not always the same on each computer). Don't mind "Auto" but more so the other 3. Click each one and check the "Port Detail". Under the port detail there will be a label named "Class:" you want to select the one that says "Class: Serial" NOT MODEM! Once the correct port is selected click "Finish". Now click "Ok" to close the settings window.

*NOTE* Do not select "DETECT PHONE" under NO circumstances whatsoever!
Now, it's time to select the appropriate port. To do this scroll through until you find the one that says "Class Serial" in the "Port Description". You will notice that there is two COM's that are "Class Modem" we will NOT be using those ones.

*NOTE* There is normally one labelled "Auto" and then three others named COM (#) *REPLACE # with a number* (In my case it was Auto, COM 3, COM 4 and COM 5)
Click "Next >" and a window will appear called "Summary"
Click "Finish"

*NOTE*   DO NOT CLICK "Detect Phone"
Click "OK"
Now... the fun part. Here we are coming into the final stages. This is the part where we add the ringtones to the phone. Hope you're ready!

Time to Retrieve the System Files And Folders!!

First ensure that "Filesystem" is selected on the left column.
Now in the middle column click the lil "+" sign with the folder next to it. It should now say retrieving. After a few seconds all kinds of folders should appear in that same column.
This time click the "+" next to the "Brew" folder
Now the "+" next to the "Shared" folder
Select the "Ringtone" folder.

ALMOST DONE JUST ABOUT TO ADD RINGTONES NOW! HOPE YOU HAVE THEM SAVED SOMEWHERES CONVENIENT!
Right click on the panel on the right side and select "New File". A window will appear asking you to select a file. Find wherever you saved your ringtones at.
Select your ringtones (Unfortunately one by one) and click "Open"
Last but not least, right click in the right panel again and this time instead of selecting "New File" select "Reboot Phone" The phone will then shut off and turn back on. Turn up your volume and go into your phones menu. Select settings, sound settings, call sounds. Scroll all the way up and all your new ringtones should be there. Hit the left soft key button and voila.. you should hear your ringtone.

*NOTE* If you do not hear music when you play it it is because your ringtone is too large. I'm not sure on whats the largest size. I generally make mine about 30 seconds but I do have a couple that are 40 and 46 seconds long.
I'd like to thank you for using my tutorial. I hope to soon make one for installing mini-opera on this phone as well. Please feel free to leave comments. I'd also like to say that I take pride in my ringtones that I make myself. So please if you use them DO NOT take credit in it.

Thanks

Makaveli Adam
